“We are proud and honored to accept this award”, stated Tiffany Benien, Sports & Events Manager for the Visit Salina Division of the Salina Area Chamber of Commerce. “Salina has consistently hosted 2 to 4 KS ASA softball tournaments each summer for more than 15 years.
We certainly value the partnership with KS ASA and the Salina Parks & Recreation Department.
In addition we have a great local organizing group that works to make these events happen. Specifically local volunteer and KS ASA Youth Director & Umpire, Sarah McMahon along with her late husband, Bob McMahon, and their children and grandchildren have worked these
events each season and contribute tremendously to the success of the tournaments.
The KS ASA tournaments contribute significant visitor spending to Salina.” Bob McMahon, was posthumously inducted this year into the KS ASA Hall of Fame. Bob was the ASA Region 3 Commissioner and lived in Salina. Bob passed June 1, 2011. Bob will always be remembered for his support and love of youth sports, specifically youth and adult softball.
Bob umpired, kept score and directed many tournaments in Salina and throughout Kansas. Salina is tentatively set to host the following KS ASA tournaments this summer at Bill Burke Park and East Crawford Recreation Area.
